Toronto’s beginning to heat up, and by July, it’ll be hot enough to fry an egg on the sidewalk. However, we’ve got a better, more beautifying use for that egg. Here are four ways to use ingredients from your kitchen to keep your hair and skin healthy, and your wallet happy.
1. Almond oil: For you ladies with curly locks, it’s CRUCIAL that you keep your hair hydrated with oil, to prevent dryness and frizz. Olive oil can be a little heavy at times, but almond oil is a cheap, and wonderful substitute for all those expensive serums. Apply a little either as a hair oil during styling, or heat in the microwave until hot (but don’t burn yourself!) for an inexpensive hot oil treatment.
2. Egg Yolk: Nobody likes zits. Using egg yolk as a quick facial cleansing mask is a great way to cleanse the skin and get rid of those pesky bumps. Just separate your white from your yolk, mix the yolk in a bowl and you’re ready to go.
3. Olive Oil and Brown Sugar: In between expensive exfoliators? Mixing together two tablespoons of olive oil and half a cup of brown sugar is an easy way to slough off dead skin, that’ll leave you feeling sweet and soft.
4. Cucumber, olive oil and egg: Hopefully this summer, you’ll get a chance to get your swim on. To stop chlorine for damaging your tresses, blend a quarter of a peeled cucumber, two-three tablespoons of olive oil and one egg into a hair mask. Spread through hair evenly, and use this treatment once a month.
