If I were ever asked to choose a single item that wholly embodies the culture and attitude of urban Montreal, I would proclaim without hesitation that a bicycle wine rack is the hands-down choice. Specifically, the leather wine racks produced by Oopsmark – a Montreal-based company with the most brilliant idea of the century, in my opinion – are nothing less than absolutely essential to life as we know it in this city.

Bold statement, perhaps. Yet, everyone and the dog bicycles in this city, and placing bottles precariously in bike baskets is so 2010. Numerous BYOW restaurants, afternoons drinking in the park, BBQs on a friend’s balcony: let’s be real, wine is an essential summer-in-Montreal beverage, and bicycles are essential getting-places-in-Montreal vehicles.

What’s more, these bicycle wine racks are handmade from recycled, oil-treated and vegetable-tanned leather with beautiful brass fittings, and are adjustable to securely fit differently sized bottles on different sized bikes, all while indirectly encouraging the no-car lifestyle. Fo’ serious.

Visit the Oopsmark booth at Spring Puces POP this weekend, or purchase your very own, gets-better-with-age wine holster on their Etsy page. Each bicycle wine rack retails for $30 (plus shipping if you buy online).

Don’t forget to check out some of the other funky-industrial leather items produced by Oopsmark, including a unique USB key cuff, and leather yoga matt strap.
