Last week Vancouver’s bi-annual Eco Fashion Week hit the Olympic village for a whirlwind of shows, parties, and style. Showcasing environmentally friendly local and international designers, Eco Fashion Week draws hordes of Vancouver’s fashion elite for five days of fierce fashion. FIERCE! But friendly 🙂
It was held in the Salt Building, a perfect venue for the event. A restored salt refinery, the space features beautiful, lofty ceilings. A trip downstairs reveals the exposed foundation, a bonus for a heritage building geek like myself. There’s something very eco-hip about a restored building, so the event felt natural in the space.
Hundreds of guests flocked to the shows each night, itching to see new collections by Alternative Apparel, Kim Cathers, Jason Matlo, and Prophetik. The styling was professional and unique, often creating shows that evoked an eco feel without the granola look.
From local fashion heavyweights to proud grandparents and some of the best dressed twelve year olds I’ve ever seen, everyone was there to support. I’ve never seen so many hundred metre dashes in four inch heels. The whole aura was very elite, like I had stumbled into something I wasn’t supposed to know about.
With shows sold out, after parties at different venues each night, and some wicked styles, Eco Fashion Week was a resounding success this year. I’m already dusting off my four-inchers for their next offering. Gotta start practicing early! Hug a tree and strut!
