Did you know that along Cypress, from 2nd ave down to Cornwall (which is just over the Burrard bridge for the downtown hounds, or just above Kits Beach for anyone else), amongst the lovely beach houses and well-fashioned urbanites, there lies a delicious splattering of foodie havens? Explore before the beach, or between an afternoon shopping on 4th, and eat through these suggestions of yummiest grub along lower Cypress in Kits.
Planet Veg – Get the Paneer sandwich combo with spinach soup; it’s the Indian ‘grilled cheese’ and it’s so good you might want two. Healthy too! There’s a good selection of ice cream for dessert, but the Laddu, a little chickpea dough ball, is sweet and moist and a perfect one-bite finish.
Siegel’s Bagels – Authentic Montreal style bagels! They’re kettle boiled then baked in a wood burning oven, making them dense and chewy in the middle, but with an awesome crunch on the outside. The ‘Everything’ bagel is saltily divine – I like to order it as the egg and cheese breakfast bagel from the board, but replace the cheddar with cream cheese, with scrumptious pickles on the side.
Pane from Heaven Bakery Café – Have a pesto chicken sandwich and a smoothie! Perfect lunch. OR, they have waffles on the weekend, so make a delicious start here to a day of romping around in these last summer days along the Kits water, gawking at the hard bodies and kicking around a beach ball.
Rocky Mountain Flatbread Company – Organic and local handcrafted flatbread pizzas, daily pastas, salads and soups – and with a liquor license that starts from opening at 11:30am! The Yukon pizza has wild boar, potatoes and arugula, and the BBQ pizza is delish.
Kitsilano Daily Kitchen – An ever-changing menu is a good thing. Fancy and delicious, total acceptance of the farm to table movement, you can have a 6 course meal comprised of the chefs daily picks, a real ‘culinary adventure.’ The chef cooks everything based on what’s fresh, kind of like entering someone’s home – someone who is a really, really good cook. This is the only Dinner only place on my culinary block party review, but guaranteed to be worth every dime; this could be your next date night spot with the girls!
