Here’s what’s happening online in Toronto this week.

The Trinity Bellwoods Flea

The Trinity Bellwoods Flea is going virtual for the entire month of April while continuing to support local makers, artisans, entrepreneurs, small businesses, and artists. From now until April 30, they’ll be showcasing local sellers who you can purchase from online.

Virtual Paradise Theatre

Paradise may be closed, but they’re still bringing you movies! The theatre has teamed up with some of their favourite boutique film distributors to stream movies through their affiliate links, with proceeds going to both the distributors and Paradise. The films include Fantastic Fungi, the Oscar-nominated Corpus Christi, and L’Innocente. 

Rivoli Home Sessions

Iconic Queen West venue Rivoli is hosting a social distancing series called Rivoli Home Sessions, which features musicians performing live daily on their Instagram page. 

Arkells’ Flatten The Curve

If you’ve ever wanted to learn guitar, or just feel like sitting in on a music lesson, Max Kerman – lead singer of Hamilton rock band Arkells – is hosting a Flatten The Curve Music Class on the group’s Instagram page every day at 1 p.m. 

Opera At 🏡 

The Canadian Opera Company has launched a series called Opera At Home to “bring a bit of opera into your life during these challenging times.” Every day at 11 a.m., they’ll share a performance clip on their Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook pages.

Club Quarantine

Club Quarantine is a virtual queer dance party happening every night from 9 p.m. to midnight on the app Zoom. The party was started by four Toronto-based artists – Mingus New, Casey MQ, Andres Sierra, and Brad Allen – and has featured both local and international DJs.

Arts In Isolation 

Arts Etobicoke is providing free online art classes and cultural experiences that you can enjoy from the comfort of your own home as part of its Arts In Isolation. This week’s offerings include Afternoon Art Classes with Dana Zivkovic and Crafting in Quarantine with Marjan Verstappen.

HomeCon

HomeCon is a new virtual fan convention featuring five show panels with celebrities from Lost Girl, Assassins Creed, Stranger Things, The Expanse, and more! The convention will stream on Twitch this Friday and Saturday, April 10 and 11, with a subscription price of $4.99 (you can also purchase five minute one-on-one chats for $50). 10% of all proceeds will go to First Responders First.

Choir! Choir! Choir! Sing-a-thon

Stay home and join Choir! Choir! Choir! this Saturday, April 11, at 3 p.m. on Facebook and YouTube for a virtual sing-a-thon in support of the Canadian Cancer Society Daffodil Campaign! CCC will lead and you’ll sing with thousands of people from across Canada and around the world. 

Fundraiser for Remix Lounge

Like so many other businesses across Toronto, Dundas West venue Remix Lounge has been impacted financially by the COVID-19. They’ll be hosting a fundraiser this Saturday from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m. on Twitch with DJs Hanna and Darkness Visible on the decks, bringing the music you love for you to enjoy and dance to in the comfort of your homes. 

Saturday Night Jukebox Dance Party

Shimmy and shake your stresses off as DJ Blush brings her Saturday Night Jukebox Dance Party back to Twitch! She’ll be playing rock ‘n’ roll, pop, and soul from the ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s Saturday from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Saigon Sundays

For many years, Saigon Sundays was broadcasted live-to-air from the third floor of the now-defunct Whiskey Saigon nightclub. Now, DJs Paul Dhingra and Dwight Hybrid are making it a regular livestream where they’ll be spinning retro, post-punk, new wave, Britpop, and classic alternative every Sunday night from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Sunday Night Live

Canadian Comedy Award-nominated and winning troupe The Sketchersons perform a best-of-the-best show this Sunday, April 12, as part of #CanadaPerforms, presented by the National Arts Centre). The show streams live at 9:30 p.m. on Facebook and Twitch.
