Time is weird right now—days blend together, and life feels a little like Groundhog Day, except the daily news is far more menacing. We have an idea to add some positive energy into your routine and mark the fact that it’s actually Friday (did you remember?): tonight, get the city’s top Hip Hop artists performing in your….living room! URGNT’s double-header Hip Hop showcase kicks off at 7pm with Quincy Morales, and a performance by Tremayne will follow at 8pm. 

URGNT is Toronto’s newest online concert series that showcases Canada’s top talent, pulling from a variety of genres. They’ve already hosted three successful live concerts featuring Measha Brueggergosman, Moskitto Bar  and Quique Escamilla. “What started as livestream series in empty venues created in response to the COVID-19 outbreak has quickly adapted to promote social distancing and create a curated platform to present and support the best of the city’s musicians,” says Founder Mark Marczyk, known for his work with Toronto’s Lemon Bucket Orkestra and Balaklava Blues. 

Once it became obvious that venues were closed indefinitely, Marczyk quickly established URGNT to achieve two main goals: unify the arts industry in Toronto in a safe and creative way; to raise money to pay a nominal fee to all involved parties to help with lost gigs and wages as a result of the quarantine; to document and catalogue this unique period in history; and to make compelling content available to audiences when they need it most.

ABOUT QUINCY MORALES – Friday, April 3 – 7 pm ET
Quincy Morales is a Filipino-Canadian Hip Hop artist from Scarborough, Ontario – a division of Toronto most known for its mosaic of cultures and ethnicities. Named after American record producer Quincy Jones, Morales was immersed in American culture from a young age, learning how to dance and write music by the age of 8. Quincy has a long list of accomplishments, including being a 2019 Top 10 Finalist on CBC Searchlight, recognized as an Agent of Change in ABSOLUT Vodka’s 2019 Changemaker campaign, and invited to meet Michelle Obama at her first Canadian speaking engagement (2017).Morales’ most revered accomplishments have been in his efforts to improve underserved communities across Canada. Aside from being an entertainer, Morales has found a passion for giving back, partnering with a number of community organizations to offer free programming for youth across Canada. ABOUT TREMAYNE – Friday, April 3 – 8 pm ET
Tremayne is a Toronto grown hip-hop artist, known for his prolific performances and universally respected for his visceral songwriting. Born and raised just west of Toronto, in the suburb of Brampton, Tremayne began his career under the moniker T-Mayne, a nod to his birth name. Known for wearing his heart on his sleeve, whether on stage or on record, it has become a calling card for his style of music. Floating somewhere between the poetic, introspection of classic Chicago hip hop, and the contemporary trap soundwaves of New Toronto, Tremayne explores the interpersonal workings of the artist mind, the bleeding heart and the human experience. His pursuit of a career in music has taken him across the globe from London, New York, Montreal, Germany to performing at Atlanta hip hop festival, A3C.
