Like all arts organizations, Tapestry Opera had to cancel their exciting spring programming, including Songbook X and the New Opera 101 masterclass.
Upsetting indeed, but they’ve since come up with some creative solutions to persevere in difficult times, which was shared in a bulletin earlier this week: “Although we were heartbroken to cancel, we are thrilled to announce that our headlining artists have agreed to change tack and perform a full recital, streaming for free on our Youtube channel on Saturday, March 21st at 8:00PM!,
What can we expect from this virtual opera? A notice from The Company promises the very best: “Krisztina Szabó, mezzo-soprano, will be performing Tapestry selections and other select opera and art song, accompanied by Chris Foley, collaborative pianist, on our fabulous Bösendorfer Imperial Grand Piano.” Sounds beautiful, and an enchanting way to spend a Saturday evening at home. an enchanting way to spend a Saturday evening at home.
“This world has changed a lot in just a few weeks. In the face of great challenges, we can be both cautious and not beaten,” reads a messsage from organizers. “We are inspired by our community of artists, audiences and staff and are looking forward to engaging with you in innovative ways through this challenging time.”
With families separated due to social distancing, we think it would be a great idea to encourage loved ones to tune in for a collective viewing from afar. Following the performance, giver your mom, sister or friend a call to share reactions.
