Writer Liisa Ladouceur describes herself as a “lifelong straight-edge non drinker”, who—for decades—has felt somewhat alienated at social events because she didn’t consume alcohol (you’re not alone).
Fed up with events constantly centered around alcohol, but still wanting to explore Toronto venues and be social, Ladouceur launched Abandon: a monthly booze-free after work meet-up.
The next one is happening this Wednesday (Feb 12, 5-7 p.m.) at The Gladstone Hotel’s Melody Bar. “We don’t want to drink only crap soda from the bar fountain, so I find bars and restaurants in Toronto that serve excellent mocktails, and other non-alcoholic beverages,” says Ladouceur, who recently spoke about her booze-free happy hour initiative on CBC’s Metro Morning. “We make our own happy!”
Whether you’re straight-edge like Ladouceur, in recovery for alcohol-use disorder like me, or simply want to experiment with sobriety, the Abandon events are welcoming to all, and promise a glorious selection of delicious non-alcoholic options!
Get on their list, so you always know when, and where, the next Abandon get-together will be.
