This morning, I had the best seats in the house for the much-anticipated Burberry Prorsum Fall/Winter show for London Fashion Week.
It was 11am and I was in bed.
The experience began with my usual morning twittering about, when NYT The Moment posted some Burberry related musings. Immediately I realized what I should be doing, and it had nothing to do with leaving my bed.
The dashing host sporting a classic Burberry trench (shocker) interviewed the likes of Kate Hudson,The Kooks, and Mary-Kate Olsen. Luke Pritchard of the Kooky British darlings seemed awkward on camera, mumbling about wearing Burberry tee’s on stage while MK, when asked what she was most excited about, responded with the utmost creativity: “the clothes.” I chuckled from the floral caves of my quilt.
But MK was right, the clothes were worth the excitement. Turns out, thigh-high boots will stick around for another season and velvet has been released from fashion exile. The usual Burberry trenches were featured with jumbo collars, but the real emphasis of the show was on sheepskin as models strutted out in oversized, aviator style jackets complete with numerous leather straps and buckles around the collar and the arms.
The live stream was a little shaky at times, but considering live streaming of fashion shows really only began about a year ago when Alexander McQueen (bless his soul) streamed his SS2010 collection live from Paris, the HD viewing was truly impressive. Even more impressive to those actually at the show were 3D glasses handed out to the viewers. That’s Burberry chief creative director Christopher Bailey stopping at nothing to blend the catwalk with the cinema.
