The 28th edition of the Rendez vous du Cinema Quebecois is underway, giving Montrealers first crack at plenty o’ movies (77 premieres, to be exact), as well as reprising the best Quebec films of the past few years, for those of us that missed them the first time around.

Tonight at 6pm, check out Les Grand Chaleurs at Quartier Latin (350 Emery), the love story of a widow and kleptomaniac. Director Sophie Lorain will be in attendance to field questions after the screening.  Or, if you’ve never seen Quebec classic Les Boys on the big screen, catch it at 7pm at la Grande Bibliotheque (475 Maisonneuve E).

On Tuesday, Looking for Anne, from acclaimed Japanese-Canadian director makes its Canadian debut at 8pm at Quartier Latin (350 Emery).

Who is KK Downey?, the 2008 comedy from local ne’er do wells Kidnapper Films , returns to the big screen this Wednesday at 9:45pm at Cinema ONF (1564 Saint Denis).

Xavier Dolan’s J’ai tue ma mere (Canada’s official submission for Best Foreign Language Film at this year’s Academy Awardsscreens Thursday at 8pm at Quartier Latin (350 Emery).

On Friday, pull out your neon, stretch pants and K-Ways for an eighties themed cocktail party in honour of Ricardo Trogi’s film 1981. The party goes down at 9pm at the Cinematheque quebecoise – Espace cocktail (335 Maisonneuve E.), while 1981 plays at 8pm at Quartier Latin (350 Emery).

The fest wraps up on Saturday with a free screening of La Guerre des tuques, the early 80s kiddie Quebec classic which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.  Check it out at 5pm, at la Grande Bibliotheque (475 Maisonneauve E).

I’ve barely covered the hors d’oeuvres in this smorgasbord of Quebec film, so check out http://rvcq.com/ for more info.

Tickets are $9 each, or $35 for 5.
