It may only be the beginning of February, but Vancouver’s air is balmy and smelling sweet with the scent of Spring. YES I said it. Spring is here!… already?! Not technically , I know.. but how could this weather not make you want to strap on some sandals, buy some flowers, and leave your mittens behind!
I took a peek at Lily + Jae’s Spring 2010 look book and can’t wait for the season of rebirth and watch my wardrobe blossom. Here are some of my favorite picks. One rule I stick to in creating a rounded out closet is classic basics with a contemporary edge.
There is nothing more classic then the a crisp white blouse. It goes with everything, and yet never goes out of style. L+J’s Boyfriend Shirt takes this years borrowed-from-your-man’s closet look and attached it to the perfect white blouse; its got shirt-pocket detail and a tailored cuff, but it’s a no-button pullover for a softer casual look. Pair it with simple denim for weekend walks to Granville island.. or wear it with some beads and boots for lunch date with the ladies.
I am always tired of hearing about the little black dress – but the old adage rings true. Since we aren’t attending cocktail parties every weekend, but always need something easy to slip into to make us feel special L+J’s Skye Dress does the trick. I love a piece that is feminine with a modern edge. The boatneck black dress has 3/4 length sleeves that pucker at the shoulder for a tailered look almost vintage look, hitting mid-thigh ruffling along the bottom. Casual and classic, and dressy at will.
Nothing finishes an outfit like the perfect coat. It creates your shape. In vancouver where people love to layer, a lightwith coat with structure is key. L+J’s Cache Coat is a younger and less-formal take on the trench. I love it because its a coat that takes you dog-walking in the city, and running errands, transforming beutifully in to your evening wear ensembles.
Not only our homes need spring cleaning but our wardrobes do too. Giving your basic a boost with Lily + Jae will have you walking with ‘spring’ in your step.
