This spring, BoucharDanse‘s Artistic Director Sylvie Bouchard is bringing Histoire d’amour to Harbourfront Centre. Histoire d’amour is an original love story told through dance that anyone can appreciate, whether you are familiar with the genre or not. This spectacular show examines love over the ages, with original pieces created by six top Canadian choreographers. 

We chatted with Sylvie this week. 

SDTC: What’s at the top of your bucket list?

SB: Walk the Camino.

What’s your go-to song for getting stuff done?

The album Tommy by The Who.

What advice would you give to your fourteen-year-old self?

Eat good food.

Who has made a big impact in your life recently, and how?

Denise Fujiwara. Studying Butoh with her has changed me as an artist and as a person.

What does your ideal Saturday look like?

Get up late, putter around, no schedule, maybe a yoga class, a movie or a show, a good restaurant with a good friend, a glass of wine.

What’s the best part of being your current age?

My friends have known me for a while.

What is your favourite quality in your best friend?

Trustworthy.

What/who is currently inspiring you?

Gabor Maté.

What art work would you love to have in your space/on your walls, and why?

Pablo Picasso’s Blue Nude.

Fave rainy day comfort food? Or activity?

Rain or shine, I always love to be in the studio working!

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to be in the circus and travel with the circus.

What was your favourite game/toy as a child?

Risk.

What adult task would you like to get better at?

Public speaking.

If you could spend a year studying something, what would it be?

Osteopathy, with a focus on treating babies.
