On October 1st, Partners In Health Canada turns five years old. Though the organization is relatively new to Canada, Partners In Health—originally founded in Boston and Haiti—has spent the last thirty years revitalizing communities, transforming global health, and proving that the delivery of high-quality healthcare is possible everywhere. (If you’ve read Mountains Beyond Mountains, you know what we mean. If you haven’t read it, you have your fall book recommendation.)
Since 2011, PIH Canada has both spearheaded and supported projects in Haiti, Rwanda, Liberia, Malawi, and Chiapas, Mexico. In Haiti, we launched the first comprehensive program to treat and prevent gender-based violence; the project tracked and treated 659 cases over the first fifteen months. In five years, PIH Canada has sent over $3.4 million to the field, and we’re just getting started. You can read more about our work here.
So why Staying Power? Because wherever we work, Partners In Health is there for keeps. Staying Power speaks to the collective strength that keeps us committed to accompanying the people and communities we serve for the long term. And we think that it’s something worth celebrating. And so on a cool autumn evening in Toronto’s Distillery District, we’re going to do just that.
We hope you’ll join us on October 1st: The night will feature food by Encore Catering, an open bar—here’s raising a glass (or two or three) to you, Beau’s All Natural Brewing Co. and Noble Estates Wine & Spirits—an eclectic silent auction, and great company. Our guest of honour is Dr. Joia Mukherjee, Partners In Health’s Chief Medical Officer and a speaker and social justice warrior, as PIH co-founder Dr. Paul Farmer testifies to in the video below:
Tickets available here. More information about Joia and the event can be found here.
