In light of the recent shootings on Danforth, residents of Toronto, the GTA and beyond are invited to Withrow Park tomorrow night (Tuesday, July 31) where individuals representing the theatre, film, and TV community will be staging an outdoor gathering. Attendees are encouraged to bring a flashlight or candle to light up the night in unison at sunset.
The lighting ceremony will be led by Toronto residents Colin Mochrie (Whose Line is it Anyway?) and Aurora Browne (Baroness Von Sketch Show, The Second City). “The flashlights and candles will represent our wish to reignite the flames of love, unity and compassion in our individual and collective hearts,” notes organizer and Toronto-based actor Geraldine Ronan.
“This event is non-political for us,” adds casting director and co-organizer Steve Mann. “This isn’t about gun laws, race, immigration, religion, or anything other than love, hope and healing. This is our response to the recent gun violence in our beloved city.”
416 Light Up the Night is taking place Tuesday, July 31 at Withrow Park (725 Logan Ave) from 8:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. See the Facebook event page here.
