Stephanie Cadman is a Canadian Folk Award-nominated musician, and a member of Belle Starr. Widely recognized as one of Canada’s top violinists, Stephanie has appeared as a fiddler and tap dancer with such symphonies including the Kennedy Center’s National Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Albert Hall. SDTC: What spaces in Toronto do you find inspiring?
SC: The AGO is a beautiful spot to get my creative juices flowing. I also spend a lot of time in the Junction, so many great antique and coffee shops to roam in. My big deck is pretty awesome as well.
What aisle do you spend the most time in at the grocery store?
Probably frozen foods – trying to find some new coconut ice cream to feast on.
Which virtue do you try to cultivate within yourself?
Acceptance.
The receipts in your wallet would indicate what?
I drive a lot, eat out a lot and have a Perrier addiction
If you could reinvent your career and be something totally different, what would that be?
Race car driver.
When you dream about travel, what place in the world comes to mind?
Africa, and the Galapagos islands are high on the list.
What makes you happy?
Earl grey tea, coconuts, hot baths.
What makes you cringe?
Walking on crunchy snow, touching cotton balls.
What quality do you loathe most in others?
Selfishness.
What, in your opinion, is overrated?
Planning your future.
How do you feel about life at this moment?
I’m doing a show I love, my family and friends are healthy, I’m pretty peaceful.
What quality do you value most in a lover?
Big hands.
What is your favourite thing to do on a Saturday?
I never know what day it is, I’m usually working on a Saturday! Always a good night for some live music and hangs with friends.
What is your comfort food?
Peanut butter and jam sandwiches.
