650 bands in 7 days might seem totally overwhelming, but we’ve put together a list of our top 10 picks for you to check out during the whirlwind week of NXNE. Here the bands we are super jazzed for:
1. IGGY AND THE STOOGES Yonge and Dundas Square, Sat June 19th 9:30 pm.
The iconic Iggy Pop single handedly created punk rock back in the 70’s, according to some. 30 some odd years later, he’s still in business and coming to Yonge and Dundas square to show Toronto what he’s made of. One of the most dynamic performers ever, he has been known to loose his drawers, smear himself with peanut butter, and rock makeup to rival Lady Gaga - not to mention belt some legendary punk rock hymns. read more...

Wednesday, Oct. 14th: Grizzly Bear @ Vogue Theatre, 918 Granville St. Grizzly Bear's unbelievable harmonies, insane musical ability, and bashful onstage demeanour are a recipe for swoon. Live, their songs take on a drama and texture even greater than their complex albums.
Monday, Oct. 19th: Kid Sister @ The Venue, 881 Granville St. Along with her kid brother J2K from Flosstradamus, she helped put Chicago hip hop and electronica on the map, getting a leg up from Kanye West with the song Pro-Nails. Go dance now.
Tuesday, Oct 20th: Islands @ Rickshaw Theatre, 254 East Hastings St. No one who wears a sparkly cape has ever disappointed me. This show will be no exception. Learn how to cry sexy.
Wednesday, Oct. 21st: Yo La Tengo @ The Commodore Ballroom, 868 Granville St. The heroes from Hoboken are back with Popular Songs, in which they sometimes sound like Beck and they sometimes sound like they're from space. Yo La Tengo has been doin' it well since before I was born, and the party don't stop. Live, they combine a sense of fun with a sense of spiraling beauty-upbeat songs make the crowd smile and melancholy songs soar. $25 at Zulu, Scratch, Red Cat, and Highlife.
Thursday, Oct. 22nd: The Gossip @ The Commodore Ballroom. Look fierce, dance fiercer. The Gossip will bring raw energy and mad style, so you'll need to give it right back. Heavy Cross is addictive in that dark rooms, swilling vodka way that something hasn't been in a few years-like an eerie carnival ride behind the kitchen of your favourite bar. $25 at Zulu, Scratch, Red Cat, and Highlife. read more...
