Last week, photographer Kate Killet hit The Baby G on Dundas West for Toronto Women in Music’s sold-out show featuring Beliefs, Vallens, Peeling, and Nyssa.
Toronto Women in Music (TWIM) is a group that meets monthly to discuss various women-identifying issues within the music community. TWIM’s aim is to foster a safe environment to have conversations, provide resources & information, and facilitate connection, education, inspiration, and support across many different topics. This includes (but is not limited to) music, intersectional feminism, labels, songwriting, publishing, production, PR, music videos, music photography, radio, concerts, support, misogyny, diversity, gender issues, racial issues and everything in between!
Hip-shaking and whiskey sipping, the local bands (all fronted by female identifying performers) took us on a ride and made us feel a lot of things in our hearts, our heads, and our groins. Mostly, we were left wishing we had taken up bass guitar back in grade ten because clutching a mic on stage and ripping up the joint with powerful chords looks so damn cool and fun.
So much good music, so much to think about.
