On February 27, HERstory in Black, a Toronto-based digital photo series profiling 150 black women from the GTA and other parts of Ontario and presented by How She Hustles, took place at the Canadian Broadcasting Centre.
Hosted by CBC’s Amanda Parris, the photo series included award-winning singer Jully Black and dub poet D’bi.Young Anitafrika. Jully Black brought her mother up on stage for one song. D’bi.Young Anitafrika’s mother was also in the audience.
Also in attendance was Jean Augustine, the first Black female MP and Cabinet Minister, and the reason why Black History Month is celebrated in this country.
The evening was a fantastic success; Prime Minister Justin Trudeau even retweeted a selfie of the women taken from the night by Celina C-Chavannes.
