What does a typical Thursday look like for you, starting from when you wake up – to heading to bed?
Wake up to a pair of puppy eyes that would like to be outside. Feed the dog, eat breakfast and head to the office. Weekly status meetings in the morning, customer meetings in the afternoon. Head home for a girl’s night in. Go for a run with my dog, make dinner and settle in with a glass of wine for some email catch up and a little Grey’s Anatomy.
What was your first job out of school?
Marketing Analyst for Bell Mobility.
What are the 3 skills you require most to do your job well?
Relationship management (internal and external), communication, change management
What do you love most about your career?
The risks that I have taken and the many adventures into the unknown. I’ve had 9 roles within Motorola; 3 business units, 4 countries, various functions over 9 years. I was fortunate to be part of a leadership development program that had me rotating roles every six months for two years across business unit, countries and functions.
Do you have any warnings?
Don’t align yourself with a certain person or group – things change. In other words don’t put all your eggs in one basket. I had 3 mentors and they all left the organization.
Who is the Motorola target market?
Motorola focuses on the 18-34 year-old market, with a bulls-eye on the 23-24 year-old; those that are graduating from post secondary school and moving into their first jobs. These individuals put great importance on their social lives, being connected and in the know at all times but now also have to juggle their professional lives as well. Motorola provides the communication tools to help them get all the information they want, when they want it. We call it Motoblur – an innovative way of receiving all of your personal and professional information, live in one place.
What past Motorola campaigns are you very proud of, in terms of originality?
Launching Motorola’s first Windows Mobile handsets, across 3 continents, 25 countries, and 50 retailers, mobile operators and distributors, in four months. This massive launch combined unique partnerships with carrier partners and Microsoft and a huge amount of creative collaboration to ensure our go-to-market strategy and launch was successful. And it was. We exceeded all of our targets for the launch.
If you could try a different career on for a year, what would it be?
City planning – if you live in Toronto you would know why I say that. I am sure it would teach me to be more humble in my opinions.
